Boschendal
Franschhoek & The Winelands
For a taste of tranquil farm living, head to this picturesque wine estate outside Franschoek, one hour’s drive from Cape Town. Founded in 1685, Boschendal is one of the oldest farms in the country and offers both comfort and stylish simplicity. The accommodation ranges from the historic Herbert Baker (the Lutyens of South Africa) designed Rhodes Cottage (complete with eco-friendly pool) to beautifully renovated farm labourer cottages, sprawled across a South African national heritage site. Note that to reach some of the cottages you will require own transport.
Go fruit picking in season and savour the unique atmosphere along the trails. This is true rural living and we love the authentic atmosphere. Take in the imposing outline of the Simonsberg Mountain and go swimming in the dams – natural luxury at its best. Seasonal vineyard tours, horse riding and wine tastings are all must-do experiences while staying here. Finish the day with pampering at the Farm Spa.
Dining options embrace the farms organic ethos; eat at the Werf Restaurant, Farm Shop & Deli, or Le Pique Nique. Alternatively, have meal baskets brought to your cottage or buy some fresh produce at the deli. A great option for families or couples seeking a private retreat.
The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.
