Perfection in Pretoria – Castello di Monte is pure indulgence. A Tuscan villa transplanted to the southern hemisphere, complete with olive trees and richly-scented lavender, this five star gem is a true find. Every detail, down to the granite staircase and the frescoed ceilings evoke continental decadence.

The sumptuous enormous rooms and suites come complete with features such as fireplaces, jacuzzis and even hand-painted murals – the presidential suite is particularly special. Breakfast here is a delight – look out for glorious views of Jacarandas in full bloom. Aperitifs on the terrace with its 360-degree view of the city skyline and dinner in the palazzo-style dining room make for an elegant evening.

Fast Wi-Fi and courteous knowledgeable staff who are ready to arrange anything needed are welcome additions to this highly-recommended choice. The hotel itself is on the edge of the city in the ambassadorial district and transfers are recommended to and from the property for ease of travel.
