Welcome to Thailand
In comparison to its neighbours, Thailand has had a relatively peaceful history and has developed at a faster pace than the rest of Southeast Asia. However, it is the country's natural charms that enchant visitors, and the one that leaves the most lasting impression is the Thai people themselves. The majority of the population are Theravada Buddhists and for most Thais, their religion influences every aspect of their lives from work to play. Another major influence on daily life is the guiding light of Thai Royal family, in particular the late King Rama IX (1927 – 2016), who was revered and loved throughout the Kingdom.
Luxury holidays in Thailand are best begun with a city-break in the thrilling capital of Bangkok; by exploring its buzzing markets and gold-tinged temples via narrow canal ways, and admiring the dizzying cityscape from world-class rooftop restaurants and bars, you will get a real taste of this wonderful country before discovering its other cities, delving into its beautiful countryside and hopping between the islands and their sandy beaches. For sublime whiter-than-white tropical beaches and some of the best service in Asia, head to the southwest coastal resort of Phuket, the southeast island of Koh Samui, or to the ultra-luxe and exclusive Six Senses Yao Noi. For a hedonistic and wild party scene, head to the backpacker island of Koh Pha Ngan, where the infamous Full Moon Party was first born. Or Koh Lanta, for a cool, younger vibe with a slower pace of beach life.
Visitors are drawn to the stunning gilded temples and exotic khlongs (canals) of Bangkok, to trekking in the jungles and tribal highlands of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai and to exploring the ancient cities of Ayutthaya and Sukhothai – Thailand has something for everyone, making it a great all-rounder destination that caters to many holiday types. While most Thailand luxury tours and family holidays include the beaches and islands of the south, many do not fit in Thailand's numerous national parks - such as the oldest, Khao Yai National Park. We highly recommend adding these to an luxury tour of Thailand as they support an abundance of wildlife, from elephants and tigers to hundreds of species of birds. Camp under the stars in a luxury tent, trek through the lush forests scattered with ancient banyan trees, or raft on sparkling rivers for the ultimate family adventure holiday. The Andaman Coast is to the west of the southern peninsula and is famous for its limestone rock formations, colourful dive sites and idyllic secluded beaches overlooking the Indian Ocean. The clear, turquoise seas of the Gulf of Thailand brim with corals and fish and gently lap the beaches to the east of the peninsula. Thailand is home to plenty of high-end beach resorts and some of the world's most charming and beautifully serviced luxury hotels in the world.
