Hpa-An

Located in the south eastern part of Burma (Myanmar) close to the border of Thailand, Hpa-An is the capital of the Kayin state. Small but energetic, this city is far from the well-trodden tourist trail and is rarely visited by travellers. There isn’t a huge amount to do in Hpa-An itself, but the surrounding area promises unrivalled scenery and classic Burmese charm and makes for a great place to visit en route from Mawlamyine to Yangon. Nearby you can visit the Kawgun Cave which was discovered in 1975, and contains thousands of 7th century tiny clay Buddha images and carvings.
