Phum Baitang, also known as the Green Village, is a luxurious 5-star resort ideally located on the edge of Siem Reap, the gateway to a plethora of cultural and historical wonders waiting to be explored.

Inspired by authentic Cambodian design, this elegant hideaway lies within rural paddy fields and comprises of 45 traditional yet spacious stilted villas. Twenty-five of these offer private terraces, while the remaining 20 come with private plunge pools. Courtesy of Arnaud Zannier’s vision, the interior design of the accommodation brings to life the property’s aesthetic of rural simplicity. Stylish eco-friendly materials adorn each villa, from natural untreated wooden furniture to banana leaf shutters and woven carpets. Despite the rustic design, luxurious touches are far from missing as exquisite antiques, freestanding baths and speedy Wi-fi can be found in each room – so you can still indulge in modern comforts while appreciating Cambodia’s rich heritage.

A serene spa offers guests seven treatment rooms, sauna, steam room and a relaxation area, and a yoga pavilion is also available to unwind in after sightseeing. For those feeling more active, a fully equipped fitness room is a huge plus, not to mention the 50-metre outdoor infinity pool.

During the day, light meals and homemade juices are served at the pool bar. In the evening, guests can choose between two fine dining options – one restaurant is locally inspired, the other offers international cuisine. Both serve sumptuous meals using fresh and organic ingredients from the hotel’s very own garden. In our opinion, swilling a cocktail in the Cigar and Cocktail Lounge, whilst the sun sets over the surrounding lush paddy fields that go on as far as the eye can see, is the perfect way to end the day. 

Surrounded by tropical greenery, this peaceful property succeeds in offering a luxurious retreat with a strong sense of place, thanks to its strong focus on Khmer culture. It is also conveniently located just a 15-minute tuk-tuk ride away from the jaw dropping Angkor Wat temples, Siem Reap and the international airport. Phum Baitang is very much an Ampersand favourite in Cambodia and is well suited for both families and couples alike.

I can't think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything.
