This small, charming boutique hotel, part of the Relais & Chateaux collection, is excellently located in both the heart of Hangzhou’s down town and walking distance from the West Lake. An all-suite property each room is situated in a traditional brick house, set over three floors, including a roof terrace. Interiors are chic, with a nod to old Shanghai, yet classic; lacquer screens, antique style furniture and a muted & tasteful colour scheme have come together to create a real home away from home, and all are located along a narrow traditional Chinese brick courtyard – which has been faithfully restored. A very good French restaurant and outdoor seating area for breakfast are found on side, however, there is no spa or swimming pool meaning the hotel is better suited to the active, rather than leisurely, traveller.
