The Norden Camp

Tucked away from the world and its problems, The Norden Camp is an opportunity for the visitor to experience Tibetan culture and the outdoors in style and comfort. The camp is owned and run by local nomads. Perched next to a river at 3,200m on the Tibetan plateau in Gansu Province (no permit required), this camp comprises seven pine log cabins, four hand-woven tents and a Finnish sauna, all sustainably built and run on solar power. The area is home to hares, marmots, foxes, gazelles, numerous bird species and large herds of yak. The camp is covered in flowering bushes, trees, and a carpet of flowers from May to October which bloom in stages. The Norden Camp uses elements of the nomadic way of life but adds the essentials that make visitors feel comfortable and welcome. Activities on offer include hiking, bird watching, horse riding, camping, star gazing, trips to nearby Labrang Monastery, visits with a local nomad family and lunch at a monk’s house.
