Located in the very centre of Shanghai’s famous Historic Bund, the Waldorf Astoria is one of our favourite hotels in the city. Spread between a historic Bund wing and a contemporary tower, there is a sense of flow that successfully combines the old and the new, maximising the best of both. River facing rooms and suites offer some of the best views over the Bund River and all are spacious, very comfortable and have been tastefully designed in a classic style and clean but warm palette. The marble bathrooms are especially indulgent. A range of good dining options and buzzy public spaces make you feel that you are staying in a Shanghai institution, without any stuffiness or nostalgia. Other facilities include a luxurious spa, heated indoor swimming pool, gym, hair salon and hotel guest library and lounge. However our favourite plus point of this hotel is its location: Central Shanghai can be visited on foot from your doorstop.
