This delightfully bohemian hotel is run by the former Egyptologist Diana von Cranach and her charming husband Gusti. Bursting with local artefacts, Indonesian crafts, and colourful antiques, it embraces and celebrates the local culture, creating a resort that is both stylish and comforting.

It is the perfect place to relax whilst wearing flowers in your hair and dining on some of the most delicious organic food one could ever hope to eat. In fact, this welcoming hotel is famed for its delicious cuisine and prides itself on only serving raw, nutritious dishes made with the freshest of local ingredients.

The four private one, two and three bedroom thatched villas, each with their own pool, overlook the beach with lawns that run down to the sand. There is a communal dining area where you will be hosted in style by Diana (who is an extraordinary raconteur). Alternatively, all the villas have large inside and outdoor areas where you will be waited on hand and foot by your own private staff.

To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.
