Ritz Carlton Okinawa
Okinawa
Opened 2007, the Ritz Carlton is the premier place to stay on Okinawa main island. Unlike most of the other resort hotels on the island which have hundreds of rooms, the Ritz has 97 and a great staff-client ratio for a more personal service. Upgrade room categories are either ocean-facing or have their own outdoor whirlpool baths and direct access to the pool. It is in a peaceful secluded location with its own private beach halfway along the north coast of the island, away from the hustle and bustle to the south. It does take an hour from the main town and airport of Naha, but there are decent local restaurants to choose from in nearby Nago town. The hotel itself has two Japanese and an Italian restaurant.
To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.
