Tobira Onsen Myojinkan is nestled in a peaceful spot in the Yatsugatake Chushin Kogen Park outside Matsumoto. Established in 1931, visitors from all over the world have enjoyed its natural hot springs and tranquillity for generations. The Japanese interior has been renovated but is in keeping with original antique Japanese furnishings. Just 27 Japanese and 18 western style rooms make this an exclusive boutique 'ryokan' a world away from the larger ones that have been built in the area. Open the sliding windows in one of their spacious traditional Japanese rooms and enjoy murmuring brooks, bird song, and snow covered mountain vistas. Some rooms have their own private hot spring baths, and their are a variety of indoor and outdoor communal ones too where the rejuvenating waters can be experienced in nature. East meets west in the kitchen as well, with traditional and modern Japanese as well as macrobiotic French cuisine available.
