The ascent from Rishikesh passes through a forest of sal trees to bring you to this award winning destination spa resort. Every room has a private balcony, some with views of the valley. The understated furnishings and hand-sewn quilts are comfortable rather than opulent reflecting the laid back syle. This is a place to visit for walking, rafting and fishing, but, above all, for a little rejuvenation therapy at the fantastic spa and adjoining outdoor pool. Every morning, you may partake in the yoga class which is held either in the amphitheatre or the maharajah's palace, depending on the weather. The restaurant places a strong emphasis on healthy eating although meat and alcohol are available. In the evening, it is worth venturing down to the town of Rishikesh, an important pilgrimage site where temples line the banks of the River Ganges and devotional prayers are performed.
