Lalitha Mahal Palace

Located just outside the city centre, this gleaming-white 1920's palace of the former maharaja was built to host his most important guest, the British Viceroy. The public areas are lavishly trimmed with ornate plaster mouldings, huge pillars, beautiful domes and broad marble staircases rise majestically up through the three floors. The best rooms are in the older section and, although quite simple, they boast lovely Victorian furniture. However, the age of the palace occasionally becomes apparent with the unreliable air-conditioning and hot water supply.
