Madikeri is a hill station town in Karnataka and the headquarters of the district. It was established in 1681 by the then ruling King Muddu Raja of Haleri Dynasty, and it now has a population of around 45,000 people. Tucked up amongst cloud-wreathed hills, this small town is a relatively unknown tourist destination but well-loved by those who have experienced its charm, which some people compare to a Swiss town.
