The River Club
Victoria Falls (Zambia)

Step back in time at this peaceful and classic Zambian retreat, with all of the hardware, atmosphere and traditions of an old colonial property. The River Club’s communal area is set in a well-appointed Edwardian house complete with high ceilings, lounge with fireplace, large dining room, impressive library and a shop. Stroll through breezy columned verandas and manicured lawns, the perfect spot for breakfast and afternoon tea. Other facilities include a croquet court, tennis court and a pretty infinity pool which seems to merge into the river itself. There is also a wellness centre for beauty treatments and massages, with a sauna, Jacuzzi and gym.

The lodge has 11spacious thatched suites elevated high amongst the trees. They are mostly split-level and all face west for magnificent sunset views over the Zambezi River with the perfect elevated position to spot wildlife roaming the Zambezi National Park on the opposite bank. Choose from Standard or Luxury River Suites (with private plunge pool), the Princess Mary Suite (which sleeps a maximum of 6) or the 2-bedroom Luxury River Family Suite. All are stylishly decorated with Rhodesian teak wood furnishings, plush textiles and subtle African touches. Suites are open-fronted and come with ceiling fans and en-suite bathrooms with ball-and-claw bathtubs. 

The River Club is located close to the historical town of Livingstone and 11 miles upstream from the World Heritage Site of Victoria Falls, making it a great choice for honeymooners or families travelling with kids (over 7 years old). There is a Kids Club at the property, the mighty Zambezi River to explore, sundowner cruises, fishing and, for the more daring, a dip into Devil’s Pool, a 167m high natural rock pool at the top of Vic Falls, as well as white water rafting, abseiling, bungee jumping and helicopter flights over the Falls.
