Uga Prāva
Tangalle
Poised on Sri Lanka’s southern coast near Tangalle, Uga Prāva is a seven-suite beachfront retreat where minimalist elegance, pioneering design and pristine ocean vistas meet. Opened in May 2025 as the seventh gem in the Uga hotels portfolio, it offers a serene coastal counterpoint to Uga’s tea-country retreats and wildlife hideaways.
Set within lush tropical gardens that slope gently toward a private sweep of golden sand, Prāva is a secluded enclave of calm. Its infinity pool seems to dissolve into the Indian Ocean, and sandy hues, woven rattan textures and coral-inspired accents subtly echo its name, drawn from the Sanskrit pravala, meaning coral.
With just seven ocean-facing suites, the experience is deliberately intimate. Choose from three categories; the romantic Hermit Suites feature whirlpool balconies, walk-in showers, dual vanities and super-king beds, ideal for couples, the elevated Horizon Suites offer cinematic floor-to-ceiling windows, bathtubs, private balconies and sweeping sea views, and designed with families in mind, the Coral Suites include a king bed, two singles, two bathrooms and generous balconies. Every suite comes with a private butler, discreetly attentive and just a WhatsApp away.
At the heart of the property, the restaurant and bar blend laid-back elegance with ocean-breezy charm. Menus spotlight the freshest local produce and seafood and inventive Sri Lankan flavours meet unfussy finesse, best enjoyed with a cocktail in hand and sea breeze at your back.
The spa offers treatments rooted in coastal herbal traditions, with turmeric, coconut, salt and coral-inspired scrubs. A treatment room, along with private yoga and meditation sessions, complete the wellness offering. Uga’s commitment to sustainability and social impact runs throughout the hotel, with fair-trade linens, locally sourced amenities and strong partnerships with women-led suppliers and artisans.
Days unfold at your own pace, and guests are invited to explore beyond the palm-fringed borders of the hotel; surf the quiet breaks at Unakuruwa, kayak lotus-laced lagoons at dusk, cycle through ancient fishing villages or join a local artisan for a pottery workshop.
Uga Prāva completes a collection of distinctive Uga properties across Sri Lanka, each offering its own take on luxury and place; Uga Riva, a lakeside sanctuary in Colombo, Uga Halloowella, a restored 1912 tea bungalow in the central highlands and Uga Chena Huts, a safari-luxe escape on the edge of Yala. Also part of the collection are Ulagalla, Jungle Beach and Uga Bay, a string of heritage-rich sanctuaries that span Sri Lanka’s cultural heartland, jungle and coastline respectively.
Travelling is like flirting with life. It's like saying, 'I would stay and love you, but I have to go; this is my station.
