Southern Africa & India Specialist
Born in Kitwe, on the copper belt in Zambia, Charmian’s early childhood years were spent in Windhoek, Namibia. She developed an early admiration of the extraordinary African wilderness when at weekends, her and her family would explore the endless reaches of the Etosha Desert, Swakopmund and the Skeleton Coast in a caravan. Discovering bushmen paintings in hidden desert caves by day, and sleeping under the bowl of stars each night, this was when she found her sense of curiosity and her love of travel, wildlife and adventure was secured.
Charmian was at school in Johannesburg, where the vibrancy and evolution of South Africa from an apartheid state to a Rainbow Nation impacted greatly in her formative years. After studying Law and obtaining a Master’s Degree in English Literature, the draw of her bush roots lead her to work in Private Game Reserves in South Luangwa National Park, Kafue National Park, Phinda and then the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which still holds a very special place in her heart.
Charmian’s embedded zeal for travel and responsible tourism brought her to the UK to create bespoke African and Indian itineraries. She has a deep understanding of wildlife and birdlife, the seasons and migrations, and her contacts extend to all sectors of the safari industry in Southern Africa and India, including aviation, guides and conservation. Charmian has just returned from a rigorous research trip to Rajasthan leaving no stone unturned as she travelled through Udaipur, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Jaipur, Agra and Delhi.
