A Safari of Discovery - Botswana Off-the-beaten-track
11 days from £7,800 for 2024 per person
Walking with the Kalahari Bushmen, floating on a viewing hide watching the great African Zebra migration and canoeing or walking on a wilderness expedition along ancient waterways of the Selinda Spillway… Enjoy this expansive and beautiful country with a more cultural and experiential flavour.
On arrival in Maun, a 2-hour road transfer takes you to the charming and quirky Meno a Kwena (or in local dialect, teeth of the crocodile). Meno a Kwena sits proudly on the banks of the seasonal Boteti River which, from November to May, attracts one of the largest zebra migrations in Africa. Meno a Kwena is located in the Kalahari, equidistant between Nxai Pan, Magkadigkadi Pans and Baines Baobabs. In our view, the greatest attraction of Meno a Kwena is the opportunity to meet families of ‘Kalahari’ Bushmen who reside in a village nearby and who regularly visit camp to share their ancient culture with guests. This offers a humbling and often moving glimpse into the lives of this fascinating tribe. As well as the cultural aspect at Meno, there is also a terrific ‘floating hide’ on the water’s edge from where you can sit and marvel at the elephants playing in the river.
A return road transfer and hop in a light aircraft transports you to the marvelous Selinda Reserve where you will be introduced to your professional guide for the next 4 nights. Depending on water levels, you will spend the next 5 days either canoeing or walking the length of the ancient Selinda Spillway and camping along the way. This safari is a thrilling adventure, though not for the feint hearted but is well worth it with the reward of a night of extravagance and indulgence at Selinda Camp.
A last hop by light aircraft will take you to Jao Camp, where you have the chance to spend a night under the stars at the super raised ‘hide’. Here you can marvel at the starry skies above and listen to the nighttime sounds of the surrounding wilderness as you fall into slumber.
