Namibia in Style: A heady mix of safari, dunes & culture

12 days from £8,490 for 2024 per person
This Grand and wholly indulgent tour is crafted to showcase Namibia’s finest lodgings in the most remote and eye-wateringly beautiful locations. The trip is led by your own private guide who will consistently amaze you with their encyclopaedic knowledge of the country, its people and its wildlife. A perfect fit for those who enjoy their creature comforts without losing the sense of adventure.
The tour begins at the bustling capital city of Windhoek where we can arrange to meet you from your international flight and drive you to the very pretty Hotel Heinitzburg. This boutique hotel is steeped in history and even a little mystery with its timeless elegance and effortless charm.
After a good night’s sleep, your private guide will fetch you after breakfast to embark on the first leg of your journey to the Okonjima Bush Suite, located at the base of the Omboroko Mountains. Be prepared for a warm welcome, sublime accommodation and a fascinating insight into the multi award winning AfriCat Foundation, a wildlife sanctuary which focuses on the research and rehabilitation of Africa’s big cats. Spend the next day tracking leopard by vehicle or tracking cheetah, wild dog and hyena on foot. Another night at the Okonjima Bush Suite is followed by an early morning departure into the iconic Etosha National Park.
The journey from Okonjima takes you to the Ongava Reserve on the southern borders of Etosha National Park and home to the Little Ongava Suite, which will be your new home for the next 2 nights. Your private chef, guide, plunge pool and day bed all contribute to making this a perfect remote luxury hide-away from which to explore the 30,000 hectares of surrounding reserve. You can also take a visit into the neighbouring Etosha National Park, home to a wide variety of game including lion, leopard, giraffe and mountain zebra to mention but a few! Perhaps most important of all is that Etosha boasts the highest population of rhino in Africa.
Next, venture into the rugged and devastatingly beautiful Damaraland with its boulders, granite plains and dry river beds. At Damaraland, you will spend 2 nights at the impressive and brilliantly designed Mowani Mountain Camp in one of their suites. Mowani makes a perfect base from which to explore this remarkable and often unforgiving area. Home to the rare and gentle desert elephant and a host of hidden desert treasures, this is a region best explored on foot or in a specially adapted 4x4 safari vehicle.
From Damaraland, you will be taken to Swakopmund for a night at the newly built and rather glamourous Strand Hotel which enjoys uninterrupted views over the Atlantic Ocean which, after the arid landscapes of Damaraland, is a welcome treat! From Swakopmund, set off early passing the impressive Gaub and Kuiseb canyons before arriving at the NamibRand Nature Reserve and to the imposing and strikingly lovely Sossusvlei Desert Lodge. Spend a night here in order to spend the next morning exploring the Namib Naukluft Park and climbing the highest dunes on Earth. On returning to Sossusvlei Desert Lodge, a quick freshen up and off you go again to your final stop at Wolwedans Dune Lodge on the opposite side of the Reserve.
Wolwedans Dune Lodge holds a very special place in our hearts as this is where James worked for a while when he was a little younger. Wolwedans will take your breath away with its unpretentious and relaxed atmosphere. The simply furnished suites are classic and elegant, and the whole camp blends seamlessly with the colours and textures of the surrounding desert. Spend 2 nights here exploring the desert landscapes on foot or in 4x4 safari vehicle.
The trip ends back in Windhoek where you will continue your journey home in the knowledge that the memories and stories of your Grand Namibia Tour will live on for many years to come.
