Dugong Beach Lodge
Vilanculos
Dugong Beach Lodge is named after the gentle giants of Mozambique’s see-through seas, the elusive and endangered dugong. Located on a peninsula on the mainland of Southern Mozambique, the lodge offers a luxurious yet wonderfully relaxed experience without the remote island prices. It has 14 air-conditioned chalets, including two 2-bedroom villas which have plunge pools and are perfect for families. Connected via individual walkways, chalets have large bathrooms with outdoor showers, a private deck with daybeds and a sala, sea-facing views and direct access to the beach.
Facilities include a beautiful and social tiered swimming pool with an island-style bar with martini seats and an extended jetty which is the perfect place to spot fish swimming beneath. There is also a restaurant called Red Meat, offering fresh Mozambique seafood. Wellness treatments are offered in-room, but this lodge is all about the ravishing nature and wildlife all around you. Set within the Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary, the first privately managed protected National Park in Mozambique, Dugong Beach Lodge is secluded within 30,000 hectares of pristine marine and wildlife territory. With clear turquoise water and colourful coral reefs, this diverse eco-system is home to a huge array of fish, dolphin, manta rays, leatherback turtles, whale sharks and its namesake, the dugong.
Activities include windsurfing, water-skiing, parasailing, snorkelling, diving, kayaking, fishing, deep sea fishing, island excursions, sundowner and dhow cruises, birdwatching, nature drives and walks.
