Desert Homestead Outpost
Sossusvlei
Set deep within a 7,000-acre private nature reserve is the timeless and pretty Desert Homestead Outpost where a warm and authentic welcome awaits. Adjoining the Unesco world heritage site ‘Namib Sand Sea‘, this impressive yet unassuming lodge oozes comfort and charm. Enjoy unfathomable views from one of the 12 guest houses or from the main house with or with its intimate restaurant, lounge and pool terrace.
Each of the guest houses are built on stilts making the most of the glorious views and are tastefully furnished throughout with spacious en-suite bathrooms. The real icing on the cake is the sleeper deck on the roof of each house which provides a perfect venue for the ultimate sleep out under the stars.
The ‘superior unit’ makes up the last of the 12 houses and is a real treat for those special occasions. It benefits from its own private lounge, plunge pool and large wrap-around veranda complete with cushioned nest to kick back and savour the views.
The adjacent plains offer a continual theatre of wildlife who roam freely across the savannah in the distance. Guests are invited to delight in the many different activities offered by the lodge which include trips to Sossusvlei, horse riding safaris through the surrounding countryside or early morning guided nature walks. We highly recommend trying a hot air balloon or helicopter flights which can be arranged during your stay.

To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.
