Bushman’s Kloof
West Coast
Wellness and wilderness go hand in hand at this multi-award winning retreat nestled in the foothills of the Cederberg Mountains. The wonderfully named Bushman’s Kloof consists of 16 well-appointed guest rooms and suites, as well as Koro Lodge, a private, fully-catered villa close to the main lodge. We recommend the Paterson Suite, located in the original Manor House (built in 1843) where teak furniture and stylish textiles set the tone. The Riverside Supreme Suite is a secluded haven next to the babbling Boontjies River, surrounded by jagged rock formations, crystal rock pools, and lush green lawns. Wi-Fi is complimentary throughout the lodge and service is impeccable at every turn.
The much-lauded spa is an oasis of healing and tranquillity with top-notch treatments. Couples can enjoy a side-by-side massage al fresco at the Riverside Gazebo Spa while taking in a romantic sunset.
The three dining options are all superb, Makan (‘To Feast’ in the local tongue), The Homestead, and most memorably, Embers, which is set outdoors in a natural sandstone amphitheatre, overlooking the spectacular valley below. Diners are lit by a roaring fire and a myriad of candles and lanterns under the vast canopy of stars. This is Africa at its most seductive and transforming.
The area abounds with sights. Marvel at ancient bushman art or visit during the flower season and take in the South African Proteas.
