Makakatana Bay Lodge
The heart of Africa’s largest natural estuary, iSimangaliso Wetland Park is also home to delightful safari lodge, Makakatana Bay Lodge. Named after a Zulu chief, the lodge has been home to the Morrison family, who are consummate hosts, for decades and retains an intimate, friendly feel with impeccable service. Guests are accommodated in six generous suites, set apart from each other. We recommend a lake view suite. Three of these are set in the dune forest which is home to, amongst others, friendly warthogs, bush babies, birds and hippos. This is authentic ‘bundu-living’ and memories are guaranteed here.
Full day safaris at Hluhluwe iMfolozi Game Reserve are included for guests staying 2-3 days as well as coastal and wetland tours. Shorter stay visitors can experience the morning and sundown game drives, followed by a dip in the balmy Indian Ocean. The Makakatana rangers are deeply knowledgeable about this ecological paradise and full of anecdotes of wild encounters.
