Tanda Tula
Kruger National Park
Consisting of both a safari and a field camp, Tanda Tula was a forerunner of authentic luxury safari. Opened in 1976, this was the first of its kind in South Africa. The privately-owned tented camp consists of 12 secluded tents, each with a breathtaking view over the riverbed. The East African styled tents feature rustic luxury, comfort and style. Each one features its own en-suite bathroom, Victorian bathtub, outdoor shower and a spacious deck overlooking the riverbed and African bush. Game drives are accompanied by hot water bottles in winter months and guests are met on return with liqueur-laced hot chocolate. Nothing is overlooked here and attention to detail is everywhere.
The field camp offers a truly glamorous camping experience. Campaign-style furniture, vibrant rugs and a mess tent evoke elegant safaris of yesteryear. Enjoy thrilling guided walking safaris where guests are led by highly trained trackers and guides, tracking general game and the ‘big 5’ on foot. The surrounding Timbavati reserve hosts hordes of Africa’s game in one of the most beautiful settings on the continent. Low human impact is taken seriously here - all lodges in the area coordinate their game viewing activities according to strict controls which ensure the sustainability and sensitivity to the wildlife.
When preparing to travel, lay out all your clothes and all your money. Then take half the clothes and twice the money.
