The Cellars-Hohenort
Cape Town
Over nine acres of manicured gardens surround The Cellars-Hohenort, set outside Cape Town in the historic Constantia Valley. Owner Liz McGrath has spent more than two decades creating the perfect retreat with exquisite attention to detail evident in every area from the charming welcome to the renowned spa. Built in the elegant Cape Dutch style and looking over scenic vineyards (Constantia being the oldest wine-growing region in the southern hemisphere), The Cellars-Hohenhort is a gracious homage to the country’s past, deeply tranquil yet only a 15-minute drive from the bustle city centre.
Nature abounds here – discover the ‘Camphor Walk’ through the 300-year-old Camphor trees, some of the oldest trees in Cape Town and linger in the rose garden taking in the panoramic views.
Two award-winning dining experiences are overseen by the city’s only Relais & Châteaux Grand Chef, Peter Tempelhoff. Greenhouse offers a modern interpretation of South Africa’s cuisine and The Conservatory, a name that conjures up hazy colonial afternoon teas, serves simple but refined fare personally chosen by owner – a typically intimate touch.
The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.
