Whether you are an adventure seeker or an adventure observer, Kalpitiya is the place to be next weekend if you want to experience some incredible kite surfing. The race involves kite surfers hopping from one island to another off the North Western Puttalam Peninsular. Contestants will take on the choppy ocean conditions then make their way to the ultra flat Kalpitiya Lagoon. The total route will be around 25km and the winner will be decided based on timings.
Located 150km north of Colombo, Kalpitiya is an up-and-coming coastal region and one of the best kite surfing spots in the world. The peninsula separates the Puttalam lagoon from the Indian Ocean and creates a marine sanctuary with a diversity of habitats ranging from bar reefs, flat coastal plains, saltpans, mangroves swamps, salt marshes and vast sand dune beaches.
