13 Thursday September, 2012
Launching on the 15th September 2012, the 11-room Uma by COMO Punakha opens up a new part of Bhutan for COMO-lovers whose trademark is their knack for combining luxury, culture and comfortable adventure.
It is set five-hours drive from Uma Paro (COMO's sister property) on a hillside in the lush Punakha Valley with incredible bird’s-eye views across bright green terraced fields and the bending Mo Chu river. These clear blue glacial waters flow downstream towards Punakha Dzong, one of the most important and beautiful religious temples in Bhutan, home to the head Abbott of Bhutan, Je Khempo and 1,000 monks.
Uma Punakha's 11 rooms include an intimate one-bedroom COMO Villa and a family-friendly two-bedroom COMO Villa. The resort was designed by Cheong Yew Kwan, a Singapore-born, Bali-based architect who also designed COMO Shambhala Estate and Uma by COMO, Ubud in Bali. Known for his inspired simplicity and natural light flooded interiors, his styling of Uma Punakha is in line with Uma Paro: over-size beds, wood-burning stoves and calming neutral colour schemes punctuated with traditional hand-painted Bhutanese wall designs.
There is an open-plan restaurant, a lounge bar ‘Bukhari’ and a COMO Shambhala Retreat with a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath and body therapies including the popular COMO Shambhala Massage.
You can stay at the Uma Punakha on our brand new Beyond the Sky Bhutan itinerary. To book your tailor-made luxury holiday to Bhutan please call +44 (0) 20 7289 6100 or email email@example.com
