Hello, party season!
With people gearing up for that time of year where cocktail invites flood in and you’re wearing your party shoes more nights than not, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite spots for some far-flung fun.
Singapore Singapore's St Tropez, the Sentosa Marina has some fabulous boats and waterside bars, and the centre of the party scene is the W Hotel, which often throws parties and DJ club nights. We also highly rate Singapore's central Marina Bay area for its innovative architecture and vibrant atmosphere. Head to the Fullerton Bay Hotel’s swish Lantern Bar, set on the roof by the swimming pool with incredible views of Marina Bay Sands.
Bali There is a fabulous new restaurant/bar called Sundara which is touted as the best new restaurant in Bali, located on the southern point of the bay a short drive from Uluwatu, Nusa Dua or Legian. It is part of the Four Seasons hotel and it has three sections – a restaurant, a lounge area and an outdoor bar. They have hired some of the best bartenders and mixologists in Bali. It overlooks a smart sexy infinity pool which in turn looks out over the sea. It is just as much somewhere to go for a daytime beach party or at night.
Shanghai The place to see and be seen in Shanghai is the bar at the top of the Park Hyatt – one of the tallest buildings in the world. It is fantastically buzzy and attracts an ultra smart crowd. Alternatively, the Sir Elly Terrace Bar at the Peninsula Shanghai is a knock-out rooftop spot with dramatic views over Shanghai's skyline.
Hong Kong Upper House is the hottest hotel in town with the most sophisticated party scene and great cocktails at the chic Cafe Gray Bar; but Hong Kong's W Hotel is also a contender, set in up and coming Kowloon, on the other side of the bay with the best views over the Hong Kong skyline.
Sri Lanka Galle has a very glamorous party set which is centred around the Amangalla but also hots up at the Sun House, which is buzzy and social – particularly during the Galle Literary Festival. It is close to town but secluded a short walk up the hill and run by the same management as the Dutch House, which is just next door. New Year's Eve is the best time to visit Galle with the infamous gala ball at the Amangalla followed by the laid-back after party at the insider's hangout, Wijaya Beach.
