Rupar Mandalar Resort
Mandalay
Rupar Mandalar Resort is a delightful member of the Mandalay hotel scene, tucked away amidst landscaped gardens to the east of the city.
This cosy yet spacious resort offers an alluring blend of contemporary features and traditional Burmese character. The large estate, originally designed as a residence, invites the guest to escape the city and enjoy home comforts. There are more than forty guestrooms, which are decorated with Burmese (Myanmarese) carvings, rattan furniture, teakwood-panelling and silk textiles, creating a real sense of place. In 2015, an additional 24 rooms were added to the resort, giving a modern room options for western tastes. The staff are extremely attentive and eager to help.
The swimming pool is the largest in Mandalay and is an inviting spot for post-sightseeing relaxation. There are also two saunas, a traditional communal spa and a well-equipped gym. The restaurant offers Burmese, Asian and western cuisine, and on busier evenings the local art of Marionette puppetry is performed over dinner. In good weather the restaurant moves outside to the open-air terrace – a wonderful place to dine under the stars.
I dislike feeling at home when I am abroad.
