Situated just outside Old Bagan, the spacious Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort has a brilliant location on the banks of the Irrawaddy River. The resort has 76 guest rooms and suites, each decorated in Burmese style, using hardwoods and local textiles. The 68 rooms are in the original bungalows, which date from the 1970s and are similar in design. Basic, but not without their charms, bungalows vary in location and view. When the current management company took over the hotel in 1996, they built 8 suites in 2 two-storey buildings which all have Irrawaddy River views from their verandahs. The suites have a sitting area, a bedroom and a well-appointed bathroom including a terrazzo bathtub. The large and scenic swimming pool is surrounded by a sun deck and a range of Western and Asian meals are served on the terrace, verandah or in the Pavilion Lounge restaurants - all of which have stunning views of the Irrawaddy River, especially at sunset. Wifi is available in reception and there is a small spa.
