Located on the banks of the Siem Reap River, Belmond La Résidence d’Angkor is beautifully located and one of our favourite properties in the area. The stylish property aims to capture the region’s rich history whilst also offering modern luxury, and that it does – to great effect.

All the 59 spacious suites are designed in keeping with traditional Khmer architecture and are cheerfully decorated using traditional hardwoods, bamboo and silk. These natural materials complement the elegant teak furnishings, echoing the ancient temples nearby, and in turn creates a peaceful, haven-like atmosphere. Make sure to take a soak in your suite’s irresistible free-form bath - the perfect idyll to return to after exploring the crumbling temples of Angkor Wat. For some fresh air, simply step out onto your suite’s terrace to be met by a pretty view overlooking either the pool, the river or the lush tropical gardens.

The inviting oasis 35-metre swimming pool is a huge draw of this hotel and must be one of the best in town. Lie back on a comfortable white sun lounger and relax under a leafy canopy – just bliss. If you would prefer a more secluded environment, the on-site spa ‘Kong Kea’ offers a calming hideaway offering Cambodian healing treatments and a variety of organic spa experiences.

As the evening draws in, the Martini Lounge is the place to be – this lively bar is the perfect place to enjoy sunset cocktails. For dinner, stay within the comfort of the hotel and take your pick between its two restaurants: the cool ‘Ember’, which can be found poolside and serves international cuisine with a twist, or the smarter restaurant, ‘Circle’, which offers traditional yet creative Khmer dishes. There is also an outdoor kitchen including a pizza oven, wok station and grill. If inspiration strikes, you can try your hand at Khmer cooking here with the ‘Khmer Kroeung’ cooking class – you’ll be whisked away to the local market to find the freshest produce, herbs and spices before returning to the hotel’s outdoor kitchen for an interactive demonstration and preparing your lunch in an authentic Cambodian kitchen.
