Amanfayun
Hangzhou
Amanfayun is one of Ampersand's Top 10 Aman Resorts in Asia.
Hangzhou has a great selection of luxury hotels, however in our opinion Amanfayun outdoes them all in managing to blend luxury, while truly capturing the essence and mystique of Hangzhou.
Amanfayun has great charm and character and is very effective in creating the romantic feeling of being submersed in traditional village life in rural China. Situated on 14 hectares of land, to the west of West Lake, the hotel is comprised of 47 rooms, suites and villas surrounded by tea fields, natural forests and lush groves of bamboo. Each of the dwellings, some of which date back over a century, are tucked away between winding footpaths and shaded courtyards, and are decorated with delicate calligraphy and traditional art pieces.
The resort features the original village Fayun layout, with a 600-metre main thoroughfare, and the Fayun Pathway leading towards the beautiful and atmospheric Lingyin and Yongfu temples. You stay includes entry to both temples outside visitor hours, both of which are easily reached by foot; a great plus to see these monuments without other tourist crowds! You will often find monks walking along the Fayun Pathway, which only enhances the strong sense of place.
The independent outlets in the grounds are also delightful as they are buzzing with local life and colour, especially the Tea House. There are also other restaurants along the pathway which include the Steam House, Hangzhou House and the Vegetarian eatery. Other facilities at Amanfayun include the Aman Spa, a small but well-equipped gym and a beautifully scenic outdoor swimming pool.
