A Royal Visit to North India & Bhutan
23 days from £18,980 for 2024 per person
This itinerary has been specially created to showcase the unique links between the British Isles and the Indian Subcontinent, which have existed since the days of the Raj. This luxurious, all-suite itinerary suggests palaces and hotels that hold a personal connection for their Royal Highnesses.
Your journey begins at The Imperial Hotel in Delhi, a place that dominates the bustling markets of Janpath, with its cool white Lutyens design and priceless collection of ‘British Art on India’. Explore this historic and majestic capital, and discover the two distinct personalities of Old and New Delhi. Drive south to the frenetic city of Agra for a night’s stay at the stylish Oberoi Amarvilas, before boarding the train to Ranthambore National Park, one of the most densely populated tiger reserves in India. Here you will stay at the glorious Sher Bagh, an intimate tented camp, which invites guests to relive life on safari as it was intended to be experienced during the heyday of the Raj in the 1920s. A sublime sanctuary in the wilderness and the perfect place to relax after the day’s game drives.
Polo connections are prevalent amongst royals in the Pink City of Jaipur, and the Indian Maharajas have given the game its royal tradition; the very name conjures up sentiments of aristocracy, excellence, style and tradition. A stay in the Prince of Wales suite at the intimate Rajmahal Palace, once home to Maharaja Jai Singh, will see you follow in the footsteps of the Queen and Prince Charles. From Jaipur, travel northeast to Kaziranga National Park, stretching along the banks of the Brahmaputra River in the heart of Assam, where the Diphlu River Lodge is a wildlife lover’s paradise, home to an abundance of flora and fauna including tiger, elephant and rhinoceros.
The final leg of this royal journey will take you to the glorious mountain Kingdom of Bhutan. If you fancy a bit of time alone, the understated, yet grand lodges of Amankora and Six Senses offer the opportunity to explore ancient monasteries, bound remarkable landscapes and absorb the region’s rich cultural heritage, all beneath the soaring peaks of the majestic Himalayas.
This luxury tour is purely a suggested itinerary. It can be booked as it is or alternatively used as a starting point for creating your own perfect bespoke holiday to India and Bhutan. If you'd like to see similar tours, take a look at our other Honeymoon and Epic Journey itineraries.
