Bhutan's Beautiful Black Necked Cranes

10 days from £7,535 per person

This exciting journey takes you through some of the most beautiful valleys of Bhutan. Perfect for those wanting to explore Bhutan’s unique landscapes and see the variation between the different valleys, you will be able to explore this beautiful kingdom whilst staying in the lap of luxury along the way.

Start with the bustling capital city of Thimphu, and explore the local sights as you acclimatise to Bhutanese life. Continue into the rural heartlands of Gangtey and the Phobjikha Valley where you will visit the Valley of the Black-Necked Cranes, before visiting the awe-inspiring Punakha Dzong. End your holiday in the pristine Paro and Haa valleys, taking in the local culture and magnificent scenery.

To be able to spot the beautiful and incredibly rare Black-Necked Crane in the wild, the best time to visit the Phobjikha Valley is from November to mid-March during their migration from the Tibetan Plateau for the winter. Each November the arrival of these magnificent birds is celebrated in the courtyard of Gangtey Goenpa at the vibrant Black-Necked Crane festival. The annual festival is organised to build awareness and understanding on the importance of protecting the endangered species, and includes cultural programs such as folk songs and dances, mask dances and environmental conservation themed dramas. Phobjikha is a wide and gently sloping glacial valley, scooped out on the western slopes of the Black Mountains, and because of the large flock of Black-Necked Cranes that winters here, it is one of the most important wildlife preserves in the country. Wildlife lovers will also be able to spot barking deer, wild boar, Himalayan black bears and leopard in the surrounding hills.

My favourite thing is to go where I've never been.

Without question, you put together the best trip I have ever taken. We were shown around like visiting dignitaries, the hotels were fantastic and the itinerary was just right. Everybody I know will hear about how amazing Ampersand is!
- Leslie Siben, India
Difficult to articulate just how good the service from you and your team really was. We know you will continue to do well and hope we have the chance to seek your assistance again before long.
- Mr & Mrs Manson, North India
I thought the Ampersand team was outstanding. We couldn’t have hoped for anything more.
- Mr Geoffrey Johnson, India
So many highlights to choose from! The hotels were amazing but Maya Villa was a highlight… I loved just hanging out in the hammock reading my book and watching the peacocks chase the cows!
- Krista Weir, Sri Lanka
We had a wonderful holiday - everything was perfect. Thank you for helping us to make a thoughtful plan to enjoy and make most out of our trip. The places we visited, the guides, the transportation and driver, the hotels selected... Everything was great!
- Jaime Benitez, South India
Everything you did for us whilst we were away was hugely appreciated, and Ampersand has been exemplary in every way. I'll always recommend you!
- Mr Richard Stoughton, Sri Lanka
Ampersand’s preparation, attention to detail and interaction before and during our trip show exactly why good travel agents have a role in today’s internet booking age. They were a delight to deal with!
- Mr David Wallace, North India
I had a very lovely time and was looked after splendidly. My first visit to India could not have been better, save for being longer! But I shall return at some point and I shall look to you to make the arrangements.
- Matthew Nicklin, North India
