Beginning with the beautiful Golden Temple in Amritsar, the centre of the Sikh faith which draws thousands of pilgrims every day, the journey continues to Maheshwar, "the Centre of the Universe" on the Narmada, one of the Hindu holy rivers, and through Gwalior, Orchha and Khajuraho, the latter renowned for its erotic Hindu temples.
Varanasi is the next destination and one of the seven holiest cities in India. Finish the tour in Calcutta, one of India's most vibrant cities, and experience its eclectic social and cultural scene, taking a cruise on the Hooghli River and watching the city unfold from the river banks.
