"Jaipur was a breath of fresh air!! The Rambagh Palace is probably the finest hotel we’ve ever stayed in (and that includes the Ritz in London and a host of others!). It was simply marvellous from start to finish (oh for more time there). The grounds were wonderful, the room superb and the staff were all charming and attentive. Both restaurants were excellent, as were the martinis! This would be one hotel we would certainly go back to. Our guide Dilip was very good, not pushy and with a lot of knowledge of textiles and local fashions which was an interesting aside. Didn’t take us shopping at all as we didn’t want to… good man! The Amber Fort was Nick’s favourite; beautiful scenery, interesting history and fascinating buildings.
In Udaipur we had another excellent guide (who looked like a Bollywood star!) who briefed us on modern history since partition and independence, which was a pleasant change! Lovely tour of the palace (the Prince even turned up – well walked past!) and the Crystal collection… then to a delightful garden and no shopping! At The Taj Lake Palace they had set a table for us on a private terrace looking west – it was absolutely marvellous. All bedecked with garlands and a little local music playing and the food was superb! All in all, a lovely romantic evening was had – and a delightful end to our trip. The Spa Boat was simply wonderful – we’d recommend that to anyone! And it was an excellent idea to book it on the last afternoon.
Parmod… What can we say! Such a delightful driver – and safe and charming and polite! The car was always spotless, he was always on time and also had a wealth of knowledge in his own right about the places we went and drove past. Good supply of snacks, water and Kingfisher was always on hand!"
