One of Kyoto’s newest hotels, The Royal Park occupies a great spot along the Kamogawa river in east Kyoto, within easy reach of two key train stations as well as historic Higashiyama and the Geisha district of Gion. The dark wood lobby with pieces by local artists is impressive, rooms are a generous size compared to similar standard hotels, and they have great modern touches such as high-pressure rainshowers and free internet access. There are also a few suites on the Premium floors which offer a level of comfort and space equivalent to Kyoto's best hotels. The open-kitchen French restaurant on the basement level is snug but stylish. One is spoilt for food in the area, with numerous restaurants in the complex across the street and Kyoto's most famous dining street called Pontocho just a short walk away.
