Hiroshima and Miyajima

The Sheraton is Hiroshima's premier hotel, and is located right by Hiroshima station for immediate access to all the seamless transportation links that Japan is famous for. The iconic Peace Memorial Park is just a ten-minute drive away and although it might lack the scope and grandeur of luxury hotels in Tokyo and Kyoto, the Club Floor rooms, especially the corner rooms, are the best in town with king-sized beds, glass panelled en-suite bathrooms, plush clean modern lines and commanding views over the city and the Seto Inland Sea. On the 20^th floor of this high-rise hotel, the cityscape views through the floor to ceiling windows are unparalleled. It is a thoroughly modern hotel with all the mod cons, and a strong western European influence on the interior design.

Within the hotel, sip on signature cocktails or enjoy the open kitchen and smart-casual crowd at Bridges restaurant. There are a dozen more to choose from in the station complex itself which are slightly cheaper. The spa, fitness centre and swimming pool (which is the only indoor heated pool in town) are at the standard you would expect from the Sheraton brand. Wi-fi access is complimentary. We recommend staying here to visit other nearby UNESCO sites, such as the floating torii in Miyajima.

To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.
