RAAS Chhatra Sagar
Nimaj
Spread out over the banks of a 100-year-old dam in rural Nimaj, located between Jaipur and Jodhpur, RAAS Chhatra Sagar is a supremely peaceful and elegant camp which was once used as a hunting lodge for the Nimaj Estate in the heart of rural Rajasthan. The Nimaj family have recently teamed up with RAAS Hotels who are now running the camp. RAAS have taken the camp to a marvellous new high in terms of additions and upgrades – there is now a glorious swimming pool overlooking the fields, a peaceful spa, an inviting baradari dining pavilion and comfortable relaxing areas for absorbing the unforgettable views.
Keeping up its reputations of one of the best tented camps in India, RAAS Chhatra Sagar comprises 16 luxurious tents overlooking the reservoir and a further 4 tents pitched on a nearby hilltop with 360-degree views, which are ideal for honeymooners. Tastefully decorated with chic splashes of colour, the new tents are larger, sound-proofed and generally more solid structures with a tented effect. They are equipped with a proper bed, a desk and dressing area next to an attached bathroom with full facilities (including hot water) and a private sit out with dreamy views overlooking the water. The reservoir is the seasonal home to flocks of migratory birds and your terrace is a fantastic spot for birdwatching as you are served tea at sun rise, or for sundowners and birdsong with your sunset.
Typical of the RAAS brand, the service and atmosphere at RAAS Chhatra Sagar are superb – the epitome of Rajput hospitality, managing to capture the bygone era of the 1920s hunting parties. This is the ideal place to relax at camp, but for those who wish to explore the area there are excellent excursions into the local community and the beautiful natural landscape. You can go on bird-watching walks or jeep safaris guided by knowledgeable hosts where you could encounter up to 200 species of birds. You can also visit local farms and villages to gain insight into the traditional Rajasthani way of life. Or for something truly relaxing, simply head out on a tranquil boating trip on the lake. In the evening sit around the campfire under a canopy of stars, listening to folklore and feasting on sumptuous Rajasthani fare cooked with fresh local vegetables, guests are also welcome to visit the kitchens and organic gardens to learn about the regional cuisine.
A stay here gives you a lovely break from the bustling cities and allows you to experience an authentic slice of rural Rajasthan whilst enjoying the lap of luxury.
