The Oberoi Grand
The Oberoi Grand is affectionately known as the 'grande dame' of Calcutta and, despite more recent hotel openings, remains our favourite hotel in the city. The hotel's neo-classical facade, fishtailed palms and grand pillared entrance create a calm and soothing fusion of classical and traditional Indian styles which perfectly reflect the city's colonial heritage. The central garden provides a haven of tranquillity where you can relax in the sun or cool down in the large palm-tree fringed swimming pool, making you forget that you are located in the very heart of Calcutta. Although now a little dated in style, all rooms and suites convey a sense of space, elegance and gracious living and make for an incredibly comfortable stay. However, the stand out feature of the hotel remains its first-class service and incredibly attentive staff. Wi-fi available.
I dislike feeling at home when I am abroad.
