The Ultimate Travelling Camp, Kohima Camp
Kohima
The first truly mobile luxury camp in India, ‘The Ultimate Travelling Camp’ offers the opportunity to experience a variety of magnificent locations as it travels across India according to the best season and festivals. It all started at the Kumbh Mela in January 2013, during which time The Ultimate Travelling Camp hosted the only luxury tented camp in Allahabad. This nomadic camp visits remote locations in India where there is no luxury accommodation – if any accommodation at all – meaning that you can take the luxury with you and not have to compromise comfort for the experience. Additionally, excursions can be tailor-made for a destination and occasion of your choice, be it an unforgettable birthday, anniversary or soul-stirring corporate journey.
Kohima Camp, Nagaland: The Ultimate Travelling Camp have set up a luxury tented camp in remote eastern India to coincide with the Hornbill Festival, Nagaland. Providing an exceptionally luxurious but culturally immersive experience, Kohima Camp comes with the finest creature comforts: fully furnished luxury tents with en-suite bathrooms, crisp linen, fine food and white-gloved butler service. Nestled amongst the rolling hills and lush forests of the region, the camp is pitched and ready to receive guests from the 27 November to 10 December. Join the Naga people as they gather together for this extraordinary event, which has taken place annually since 2000 to encourage local tribes to come together as one. The Naga people, comprised of 16 proud and distinctive tribes, were once headhunters and they retain much of their traditional cultural heritage visible in their elaborate costumes and ritualistic headdresses which are adorned with tiger tusks, bear skins, and hornbill feathers. Each day showcases a riot of colour with tribal pageantry, crafts, traditional sports, food fairs and religious ceremonies.
Join the party and immerse yourself in crowds watching proud displays of traditional costumes, tribal colours and religious ceremonies. Between the gasps of the crowd watching fire-eating competitions and the roar of engines in a vintage car rally, hear songs passed down in an oral tradition telling romantic stories of brave ancestors. Catch traditional archery and wrestling, and take in the film and literature festival. Carry on into the night with local rice beers and tribal recipes at the Hornbill Ball before heading back to the height of luxury at Kohima Camp. The Ultimate Travelling Camp are offering two, three, four and five night packages to suit everyone from the inquisitive visitor to the dedicated Indian festival follower. Tents can accommodate couples, friends or families wishing to experience this eclectic festival, where the Naga tribes rub shoulders with each other but also widen their horizons to welcome the outside world.
