New Majestic Hotel
Singapore
The New Majestic is a "heritage-chic" boutique hotel located in Chinatown not far from Ann Siang Hill and Club Street – a charming area of little shop houses with colourful old window shutters and lots of interesting shops, cafes and bars. It is our top choice for people looking for something quirky and arty. The hotel is fresh and innovative but the level of luxury and comfort is also high – which is not always the case with Singapore’s boutique offerings. The striking lobby features a small art gallery, antique leather chairs (the hotel owner has an obsession with vintage chairs), ceiling fans and cinematic spotlights. There is a small, colourful swimming pool that is fine for short lengths but doesn’t get much sun, and a good Chinese restaurant serving modern Cantonese cuisine. Rooms are ultra-hip and each is unique – designs in all 30 rooms have original artwork and murals by local artists; some are duplex suites and others have alfresco bathrooms. Great for those looking for exhilarating modern design, but not recommended for those who prefer traditional hotels.
When preparing to travel, lay out all your clothes and all your money. Then take half the clothes and twice the money.
