Built within seventeen acres of lush green gardens within the bustling city centre, Heritage Madurai rings with historic charm and is the perfect base for exploring Madurai, the city that never sleeps.
The layout of the hotel is based around an old British club which was built during the Raj, and then redesigned by the renowned Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa. The reception and restaurant are the oldest parts of the hotels, and were once part of the original club buildings, and the rooms are located in the old quarters surrounding the club. The 35 rooms and villas are enormous, and although a little sparse, they are very comfortable. Each one has a separate living and bedroom area, with a spacious en-suite bathroom, and many have their own private plunge pools and sun decks.
The hotel also has an impressive Olympic-sized swimming pool, built in a traditional Indian temple tank design. The restaurant and café is next to the pool, and guests have the chance to dine under the magnificent 200 year old Banyan tree. The food is excellent, and while service can be a little slow the staff are extremely friendly and well meaning.
