Maison Perumal
Pondicherry
This lovely little heritage hotel, owned by CGH Earth, is one of the first of its kind to be situated in the Tamil Quarter of Pondicherry, and really showcases Franco-Tamil Culture at its best. The 18th century house exudes a legacy that reflects the French colonial aura of this small seaside town, known for its alluring history, spiritual culture, imaginative crafts, trendy shopping and gourmet food.
Maison Perumal is period bungalow cum distinguished boutique hotel, and instantly shows off its traditional Tamil personality in the two courtyards; the Thalvaram (street veranda) and the Thinnai (veranda around the house). These courtyards, with fluted plaster and arched windows, give it a very French feel and charm. There is a creole restaurant, which serves excellent seafood, and a bar, both of which are thick with the greenery of potted plants. With just ten rooms Maison Perumal has a very cosy feel. The rooms are spacious, and decorated in typical CGH Earth style, they are extremely comfortable too! The hotel is run by a small and friendly team, and there are plenty of activities and local sightseeing which is available to all guests.
I dislike feeling at home when I am abroad.
