Ulagalla is one of Ampersand's Top 10 Eco Retreats.
This is a wonderful 5-star property with 20 spacious chalets sprawled across 58 acres of natural Sri Lankan jungle.
The chalets offer panoramic views of the lush paddy fields and peaceful reservoirs, and are designed to make the most of their beautiful surroundings with floor to ceiling windows and open outdoor spaces. All of the chalets have a private plunge pool, and each one comprises a living area, bedroom area, dressing area and bathroom. Complimentary bicycles are provided with each chalet should guests like to explore the vast grounds independently, or a golf-buggy can be with you in a matter of minutes of request to take you to wherever you’d like to get to within the grounds.
In front of the main building there is a large swimming pool surrounded by fragrant frangipani trees, as well as a fitness centre and spa. An organic garden provides fresh seasonal produce for Ulagalla’s sumptuous menu, and meals are served in the first-floor restaurant, overlooking the gardens and pool. Guests can also enjoy an extensive room service menu in the privacy of their chalet. Wonderful signature dining experiences can also be arranged across the resort, be it in the centre of a paddy field, on the edge of the lake or under a canopy of banyan tress illuminated by candlelight.
Ulagalla has an excellent range of activities on offer which include horse-riding, archery, canoeing on the nearby lake, guided nature walks, village tours and cookery classes – the village tour and cookery class are highly recommended! Ulagalla is also the perfect base for exploring Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle, as it is located less than 30km away from Anuradhapura and Mihintale and approximately an hour from Dambulla and Sigirya.
