Tangalle
Tangalle is a small fishing village on the southernmost coast of the island and is best known for its beautiful stretches of palm-fringed beaches, sheltered bays, golden sands and azure waters. Should you tire of lying on the beach you can visit the impressive Mulgirigala cave temple close by or go for a day trip to one of 3 national parks: Udawalawe which is known for its elephants, Yala for its leopards and Bundala for its over 150 species of birds. In the evening, you may wish to visit the beach where the turtles come to lay their eggs under the cover of darkness. Rekawa Beach is considered to be one of the most important places in Sri Lanka to see the turtles emerge from the sea to carefully lay their eggs and bury them in the sand before returning to the water.
