Weligama
Weligama is a bustling coastal town roughly a 40 minute drive east of Galle, on the most southern tip of Sri Lanka.
The town centre is set back from the beach and provides great insights into everyday Sri Lankan beach town life. The sweeping beach is wide and long, covered with lots of colourful fishing boats, and it is a great place to buy fresh fish from the morning catch. The beach is famous for its gentle break breach waves – a perfect spot to learn to surf in the warm and gentle water with surf instructors from around the world.
Weligama is also just a 5 minute drive from Mirissa Harbour, where the southern whale-watching excursions depart from (a simply unmissable experience for wildlife lovers).

I can't think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything.
