A real Edinburgh institution in its fourth decade of operation, the Witchery is a small boutique property comprised of 8 theatrical suites and a beautiful restaurant. Located in the city's Old Town, the Witchery can be found a few steps from the entrance to Edinburgh Castle. The superb interiors transport you back into another era rooms have names like 'Amoury', 'Library' and 'Guardroom' and contain four poster beds with heavy drapes, antique tapestries and rich, colourful fabrics that run from curtains to cushions. Bathrooms look like Middle-Age monasteries as candlelight flickers on rich red and gold-leaf walls. However, stuffy and traditional it is not guests will be blown away by the romantic and luxurious feel of this small hotel. The restaurant is a work of art lavish dried fruit displays and tapestries hang from the walls, golden candle-sticks light up tables of crisp white tablecloths and wood-panelled alcoves give way to floor-to-ceiling French windows. Served-up is Scotland's finest product seafood, beef, lamb and game are all excellent, unless of course you fancy trying the haggis.
