Bagan Lodge was launched in late 2013 and it has great promise. Part of the Apple Tree brand, who also have The Metropole in Hue, Vietnam, it is part of a new breed of hotels in Burma which are starting to venture towards boutique. The accommodation nods towards a "glamping" style, where the 82 villas have sweeping white material roofs and large verandahs, and the interior provides guests with privacy and a cool escape from the heat. The villas are extremely spacious and comfortable, and have a touch of 1920s style hunting lodge with very good quality materials and furnishings. The hotel has recently added 4 new suites, which feature two separate bedrooms, a shared living area and bathroom. There is a large swimming pool situated in the centre of the hotel next to the bar and restaurant, and the spa offers a variety of treatments. Positioned on the fringes of New Bagan, it is a very comfortable haven to return to after visiting the incredible Bagan temples. There is good strength Wi-Fi available in the whole hotel. Including the guest rooms.
I can't think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything.Bill Bryson
