Sleep out under the star-filled skies of the Namib Desert at Doro Nawas Camp, a magical property in the rugged and starkly scenic desert of Damaraland. It overlooks the dry Aba-Huab River Valley, which is extremely arid apart from during the summer when the rains carpet the landscape with desert flowers of golden grass. The main camp provides indoor and alfresco dining, a swimming pool as well as a flat roof with commanding views to enjoy stunning sundowners. Guests are housed in 16 natural walled rooms including one Family Room built in local stone with thatched roofs each unit has an en-suite bathroom and an outdoor shower. All rooms boast an open-plan layout and large glass doors so that beds can be wheeled out to the verandah for sleep outs with panoramic views and astonishing stargazing.

Great for seekers of solitude as well as culture and wildlife lovers, Doro Nawas Camp is perfectly situated for excursions to view the prehistoric rock engravings and fascinating San rock art at Twyfelfontein, Namibia’s first World Heritage Site. A trip to the Damara Living Museum is worthwhile to get a glimpse of the traditional culture of the Damara people. Guests can experience the unique local wildlife on game drive vehicles and on foot to search for desert-adapted elephant herds which traverse the riverbed seasonally. There is other wildlife to be found here such as springbok and gemsbok and if you’re lucky, the highly endangered rhino. On guided nature walks there is excellent birding to be enjoyed and you can also learn about the special flora and fauna which has adapted to this exceptionally harsh environment.
